Survived by parents; sister, Mikayla, at home; maternal grandparents, Len and Carol Zeman, Ebensburg; paternal grandparents, Joe and Priscilla Kozorosky, Nanty Glo; and girlfriend, Jessie Yahner, Loretto. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.


Derek was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School and had been employed during his high school years at Ebensburg Giant Eagle. He attended Mount Aloysius College and later enlisted in the Air Force to pursue his career. He graduated from the Louis F Garland DOD Fire Academy with Honors. He was based at Kadena Air Force Base, where he served as a firefighter and EMT. He had a passion for firefighting and his military career. He was a loving son, brother and grandson, who had a zest for life and had the ability to leave a lasting impression on those he loved with his humor and integrity. He held a black belt in karate and was a member of AmKor, Ebensburg. Member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church. Fallen Firefighters Ceremony was held on February 16th, 2011 in Honor of A1C Derek Kozorosky, who died in the Line of Duty February 11th at Kadena Air Base Japan.
